Yes its the iPad-iPhone-duo which caused quite an ‘netquake’ in the last couple of days. As everyone is discussing the pros and cons fo the iPad, I wanted to take a close look at the presentation of the Apps. So I started searching and dugg up great material to show you the do’s and don’ts.

If you skim through this videos you’ll notice that a good presentation reveals its character after a few seconds. The same goes for the low quality videos. Take a look at the first three presentations as they represent the best ones. The other ones lack of things like:

// A clear voice which describes the features of the product OR a clear and simply display of text which does the job as well
// The missing of a smooth background sountrack
// a distorted iPhone. Some of them look like different models.
// etc..

It’s not only the video which persuades the potential customer to buy your app. You have to communicate on all sides. There are a few good tipps for a great app presentation in the last video.

After the last feature of Cyriak Harris I searched a bit more and stumbled over this bloody animation. Together which illustrator Sarah Brown he created a short story about cat zombies taking over the ‘kitten’world. Enjoy this strange gorefest. But beware – this is explicit content. Psychedelic, crazy, insane, wonderfull, awesom. There are many words which you can use to describe the outstanding works of Cyriak Harris. At first his videos seem very random and amateurlike, but if you digg a bit deeper you can find some great artistic and professional style in it. I have no words for his kind of work as it is truly outstanding. I hope that no one tries to make a tutorial on how to create this kind of animations. <br> <br> You have to whatch all these videos! Another wonderfull reel by mauricio de oliveira. Wachting this fabulous presentation reminded me of one important trick to pump up your material: just speed it up a few percent to get a stronger atmosphere which by the way would suits the music track even better…

I have to admit, i thought a bit about these kind of reels. If you have to create the whole deal and not just motion graphics, its important for your customer to see how other works of you feel. Still its not my kind of reel because of the missing overall track. But I understand the idea behind these kind of reels…

Two completley different reels with similar content. This is going to be interesting. While the artistic image reel relies on the classic – no sound only music stlye , Edwary Dye’s reel offers us the full sound ambience of each presented work. For me its not working this way because the overall work-combining track is missing – your getting the feeling of just whatching another commercial block and thats dangerous as every creatvive aspect gets killed by that… I need some backround music, guys…

Interesting concept. Since the two freelancers from 1stfloor and IS3D started working together often they decided to create a combo reel. The result ist a solid demo reel. I just would leave at the info bar at the bottom. Even with the dark shadow the text is pretty difficult to read. Furthermore you want the viewer to concentrate on your skills and no trying to decode the info text. I would kick out the last screen with the head ‘make cool shit’… the second website is: www.the1stfloor.net

Great reel by Mechanism Digital – Thats the first reel in which the presented works get enhanced by placing sounds under several actions. I wish they would have pushed the idea to the limit and not just used some sounds on some clips. Like that it seems to be an unfinished piece. Great music track by the way ( I love basement jaxx)  -  I would love to see all the othe reels by mechanism digital – so upload them on vimeo – in a decent quality – and hit me back!

A great reel by Layne Braunstein – I just wish it would be a little bit shorter. Great intro and outro!
